About Cedar
Cedar wood is lightweight and resistant to both cracking and moisture rot. The oils of this resilient wood guard against insect attack and decay, and their distinctive aroma acts as a mild insect repellent. Cedar is a dependable choice for outdoor furniture, either as a finished or unfinished wood. Over time, unfinished cedar left outdoors will weather to a silvery gray patina. This natural process does not compromise the strength or integrity of the wood.

The planter arrived yesterday fully-assembled and in excellent condition. [...] I am using this product to grow vegetables and it looks great. I like the idea that the vegetables will be off the ground which make it easier for me to manage. I am planning on purchasing another one. Thank you for such a fine product.

Thankfully I paid the sale price vs list price. I question the list price, as these are not nearly as well-made as I expected. I bought 3 of them and found these flaws: One had a gouge out of a panel and that panel was split, several of the top miter joints didn't meet correctly and there were gaps, there was a blue marker mark on one and an orange mark on another, the feet weren't finished and were splintery, as were the 2 drilled holes in each. The feet were nailed on vs. screwed on... Nonetheless I am keeping them as I can hide the sides with the defects and they still look reasonably good and were close to the size I wanted. Just don't expect anything like a furniture-quality product.
I drilled several more holes in the bottom, as I didn't think that 2 were sufficient, and also lined the inside with plastic and coated the outside with linseed oil. If they hold up for several years, I won't be unhappy.

These are very nice looking planter boxes.
In order to keep the wood looking as nice as they are in the pics, I sealed ours (we bought 2) with some spray urethane from Home Depot.
As nice as the outside is, I know that the actual structure isn't the greatest. But I'm not planning on moving the boxes around. Once you pick a spot and fill it, it would be best to leave it there.
I wish they had a longer version of the same style. Simply Planters used to carry a 72" length planter (different style) box, but when I went to order them they were no longer available. I think they stopped carrying them because they were of low quality.

I received my planters a couple of weeks ago and have put them to good use in my vegetable garden. They're very well made and they look great.

Comments about Wood Country Rectangle Cedar Wood Boise Patio Planter Box:
Pics make these boxes look much bigger than they are. The small one looks the size of the "large" which I bo't. They must be pictures of sizes they no longer carry. The small one is a FLAT box. It is only 7" high inside. The large box won't even hold 2 planters. It is only 11" high inside. I saw the 17" and tho't it would be good for gardening but indeed it is NOT. Very disappointed. Plua shipping to send back would be over $100.00.

Q1: How would these hold up if we painted them?
A: These planter boxes come to you pre-stained. If you would like to paint them, you would first need to completely sand away the stain, then apply the paint.
Q2: I am very interested in this planter, but I need something that can roll. Is it possible to add casters to this planter that will not mar a wood floor?
A: Yes, you certainly can put casters on the bottom of the legs. Most hardware or home improvement store have these and I'm sure you can find some that will not damage your wood floors.
Q3: Can I plant directly into the Cedar planters or must I use a pot placed in the planter
A: You can plant directly with soil in these planter boxes. We recommend that some rock or some type of product be put in the bottom first for aeration and then soil can be put on top of that. You might see some staining on the planter boxes due to the water, which is why a liner is recommended, but not necessary to prevent staining of the planter box. The planter boxes should be re-sealed annually, but not on the inside.
Q4: Is it safe to grow vegetables in these planters?
A: Our records indicate that vegetables can be safely grown in planters that are free of chemicals and that are untreated.
