Hayneedle.com response:We sincerely welcome and appreciate all comments and feedback from our consumers. The change from the flat blue hose pictured in the product photos to the round black hose that is currently provided with the Madison Rain Catcher was made to improve the performance of our product. The shape of this new hose enables the rain catcher to expel excess water more quickly than the flat hose, which is necessary during a heavy downpour. The hose is not intended to go all the way underneath the barrel but rather, inserted into the groove in the back underside of the barrel, allowing the water to be directed under the barrel, out the front, and away from the house as it should. Generally, the rain catcher would be installed slightly away from the wall of the house to allow room for the downspout connector; leaving ample room for the hose behind. However, the hose can be shortened by simply cutting the desired length off the top of the hose allowing for installation closer to the house if necessary.
This is the first complaint we have received regarding the metal connectors provided; we have tested the connections on numerous occasions and all have performed extremely well. It is important to tighten the connectors as much as possible to ensure that a good seal is achieved.
