This is a very nice planter that is well constructed but is time consuming to put together (I did it alone in about an hour and a half) and has some of the worst assembly directions I have ever seen. I literally spent 15 minutes trying to figure out what the instructions were telling me to do. It comes completely unassembled and none of the boards are marked. It is held together with MANY screws so a power screwdriver is a must.

The wood quality seems pretty good. There were some pieces that had rough edges, though, and I did have one small board that was split and had to be glued together. Once assembled, it does look nice. I finished mine yesterday and applied weather sealant. Waiting to plant.

Assembly this time was easier and the quality of the materials was fine. The only drawback is that unlike the first box we bought and assembled, which had a two-sided box liner that could easily support the dirt placed in the box, this time we were sent nothing more than two pieces of black felt cloth. I suspect that after the first time I fill the box with soil and water the plants, I'll have soil leaking and dropping through the bottom of the box. If I do, I will be a very unhappy customer.

Directions to put together were not sufficient. More detail and figures are required. Additionally, photos of all the parts would greatly assist in putting together. Once assembled, the piece looks nice, but is not the most sturdy construction. Will be painting and waterproofing to ensure longevity.

There's nothing worse than getting the tools out, organizing some workspace, opening the box and itemizing the parts for assembly just to find that items are missing. The three-inch screws were missing and the diagrams referred to in the instructions were not included. Neither Hayneedle nor Cedar Creek have the instructions online. The product is great but the attention to detail and the investment in the customer experience was definitely lacking from Cedar Creek. Buy one if you like the design, but be prepared to deal with the snafu's that come from disorganized manufacturing and packaging.

    The reviews I had read claimed that this item was easy to assemble. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Plan to have a crew of at least 3 capable people available for assembly. Some of the pre-drilled holes were not centered properly, causing the wood to split - thankfully this was merely cosmetic and not structural. Once assembled, it is an attractive addition near the house for herbs and lettuces. I have not owned it long enough to comment on durability.
