Comments about Palram Multi Line 6 x 8 ft. Greenhouse:

There aren't a lot of great options in sub-$1000 greenhouses. We did some research before deciding on the Palram Multi-Line 6x8 foot greenhouse, so we weren't surprised by what we got. This is a plastic greenhouse, with a light aluminum frame. Corrugated plastic panels are held in place with plastic channel trim.

If you live in a place where it gets windy, you will need to make alterations to this greenhouse. If you can put it in a sheltered location, it should be fine. In our experience, some of the panels blow out at about 25MPH wind.

Assembly took two of us about five hours. It was not particularly difficult, but there are a lot of parts to sort through. You will absolutely want to have a second pair of hands to help put this greenhouse together. Here are some problems we ran into during assembly:

* The instructions are pretty bad. You should read them through start to finish before beginning assembly.

* The instructions tell you not to tighten down any of the nuts. The reason is that you will attach additional supports to many of those locations later. However, if you don't tighten them down, you end up with a very shaky structure and things may not fit well. I recommend tightening down everything as you go, understanding that you will later need to loosen some of the nuts to attach additional pieces.

* The plastic panels require a little finesse to fit. Sometimes, they fit poorly. We had two that, even when securely fitted into their channels, bowed up three or four inches. I thought that we were going to have to trim them down, but they flattened out sufficiently once the plastic channel trim was installed. So, don't do anything drastic to the panels until you have attached the trim.

* The channel trim takes a good deal of force to seat completely and you want to make sure that it is completely seated because the panels blow out very easily if it is not. I suspect that the reason the manual says you need a rubber mallet is to help with seating the trim. If you use one, be careful. The frame is aluminum and, in the middle of long spans, force sufficient to seat the trim is about the same as that necessary to bend the piece. You should have someone on the inside of the greenhouse pushing out on the piece so that you don't damage it.

We made some modifications since assembling the greenhouse, as we live in a windy area. First, we caulked each panel, inside and outside to the surrounding frame elements. This made a big difference in wind performance. Second, we added two trim pieces of wood along the length of each of the outer walls and across each side of the roof, bolted through holes that we drilled in the frame. We screwed the panels into those trim pieces (with washers) so that the panels are much more strongly supported in the wind. Third, we placed four 4x4 posts around the outside of the greenhouse to give greater support than the studs bolted to the relatively flimsy base are likely to provide. Total cost of these modifications was something like $40, so the total price of the greenhouse is still pretty good.

Overall, it is not a bad product, but also not particularly sturdy. It is probably best for a well-protected back yard. You get what you pay for, so make sure you are willing to accept the limitations before buying. That said, if you are willing to site carefully and do a little extra work, you may find this product to be a bargain, as we did.

Comments about Palram Multi Line 6 x 8 ft. Greenhouse:

I purchesed this great looking Greenhouse for my small planting needs. It is just the right size for me, was easy to assemble - I am 5'1", 100 lbs and needed very little help from my husband. Great engineering! Just a few little flows. Door Instructions: doesn't say which side is going to be FACE, scetches are a bit confusing and I had to take it a part once; Parts A283 for the Front (2 of them): need to be little bit longer than for the Back or holes need to be adjusted to make it right. But you can make it work with a bit of effort. Also, I had one missing part A256. We assembled Grennhouse without it [...]. Bottom line: Very Good product for small hands!
